"The Bingham Cup, officially known as the Mark Kendall Bingham Memorial Tournament, stands as the pinnacle of inclusive rugby worldwide — a celebration of courage, community, and the unifying power of sport. The tournament is named in honour of Mark Bingham, a passionate rugby player for the San Francisco Fog and co-founder of the New York Gotham Knights. Mark was also one of the heroes aboard United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001, remembered for his bravery in helping to thwart the hijackers’ plans. His legacy of strength, leadership, and inclusivity continues to inspire athletes around the world, and it is in his memory that the tournament proudly carries his name. [...] This match is less in protest, and more in celebration and solidarity. Hopefully, it does send a strong message about trans players being valuable, safe, and cherished athletes, but more importantly, it's an opportunity for trans players around the globe to celebrate ourselves and play alongside others who have grappled with everything that surrounds being transgender in a gendered sport."
