An abstract representation of socialized gender/identity.
Gender is a social construct, as is race. They are categories, identities....groups we ascribe to, are lumped with...affinity groups we participate in, both intentionally and passively. We sometimes cluster and intersect, forming connections and communities. Finding community as a Trans person can be challenge, as is represented with sparse pink, blue, and purple lines.
This is the Pits 2023/2025
Repurposed from an at-home paint & sip, post-breakup. The original painting contained only the avocado and an opaque, red background. The vibrance of the background gradually fades, from right to left, to represent the flattening of emotions during the grieving process. The crack to the pit (heart) was added in the revision process, as well. I enjoyed trying new drip techniques and funky lettering!

'Heart' Table + Chairs (oil, aerosol, epoxy resin) – 2021
Finding these beauties was a matter of happenstance! I was driving home from a tiresome overnight stockroom shift, when I saw the furniture sitting on the side of the road. It was in phenomenal condition, apart from a small break in one the chair's spokes, so I loaded the three chairs in the back of my hatchback and dropped them at home. Unfortunately, the table was much too large to fit, so I wheeled all 200+ lbs of wood 1/4 mile home.
Transportation was not my only challenge in this project; my first experience mixing epoxy resin did not go as planned. The resin didn't fully harden, dried exponentially slower than expected, and doubled as a magnet for a litany of outdoor debris. Outside the epoxy resin, I am beyond proud of how this beauty turned out!
Not seen: The center stem of the table transitions from purple, to navy, back to purple. The entire underside of the table is the same purple seen below the table's face. The bases of the chair legs are speckled with purple.

Don't Stop. 2017
My first go at assembling and stretching a canvas! Originally an outdoor painting assignment, I quickly realized I don't enjoy painting in areas with foot traffic. The prompt was to draw from our environment and paint what we saw; I drew inspiration from the colors I saw: black to represent the asphalt, red for the nearby stop signs, yellow for the road lines, blue and white for the sky.
